House Removals Survey in Chester
House Removals Survey
An accurate quote starts with a proper look at your move. Book a free survey with Britannia Cestrian and a local surveyor who knows the area — from listed properties inside Chester’s city walls to cottages down a North Wales lane — will assess exactly what needs moving, in your home or over a quick video call. The result is a firm, no-surprises price, with your written quotation back within 2–3 working days.
Why we survey before we quote
A price given over the phone is a guess – at how much you own, how it’s packed, and how we’ll get a van down a single-track Welsh lane or into a pedestrianised street in the city centre. Guesses are what cause the awkward “that’ll be extra” conversation on moving day.
A survey replaces the guesswork with a clear, room-by-room picture of your move, so we can send the right van, the right crew and the right amount of time for your home and its access. It takes 30–60 minutes, it’s free, and you’re under no obligation to book.
Two easy ways to have your survey
Not sure which suits you? Book either and we’ll advise – for very large or complex moves we may suggest a home visit.

What your surveyor is assessing
Knowing what goes into the quote helps you get the most from your survey. Your surveyor is working out:
- How much there is to move – a room-by-room picture of your furniture, boxes and belongings, which sets the volume, the van size and the crew size.
- Anything needing special care – pianos, antiques, artwork, large appliances, glass and mirrors, which older Chester homes tend to have their share of.
- What needs dismantling – wardrobes, beds, flat-pack and anything that has to come apart to get out safely, including pieces built inside a period property.
- Access -the local factor – this is where a local surveyor really shines. Historic and listed homes within Chester’s walls and around the Rows can mean restricted or timed vehicle access, narrow doorways and tight staircases; out across North Wales and rural Cheshire it’s single-track lanes, long farm drives and low bridges. We work out how close we can get the van, what size of vehicle the approach will take, and how to protect period floors and staircases.
- Any extra services – professional packing and materials, short or long-term storage at our Chester depot, and specialist handling.
Our surveyors have almost always worked on the vans themselves, so it’s the perfect moment to ask questions and pick up practical tips.
Getting ready for your survey
A little preparation makes your survey quicker and your quote sharper. Before your appointment:
- Do a full walk-round first – loft, garage, cellar, outbuildings and garden included, not just the main rooms.
- Decide what’s coming – and what you’re leaving, selling or giving away. No need to pack or tidy; it’s easier to assess if things are where they normally live.
- Make everything accessible – open the loft hatch, unlock the garage or outbuildings, let us see inside cupboards and storage.
Flag the special stuff – anything fragile, valuable, very heavy or awkward, so we can plan the right protection. - Think about both addresses – tell us what you know about your new home too, especially the approach and access: a narrow lane, a listed building, a village with limited parking, or a cross-border move into Wales. It all shapes the plan.
- For a video survey – set aside 30–60 minutes, charge your phone, check your signal (worth doing if you’re rural) and turn a few lights on.
- Have your questions ready – anything about the move; now’s the time.
A clear quote, within 2–3 working days
- Detailed - itemised, so you can see everything from crew and vehicles to packing, materials and storage.
- Accurate - based on what's actually in your home and on your street, not a phone estimate.
- No obligation - no pressure to book, and the survey and quote cost you nothing.
Local surveyors who know Chester, the Wirral & North Wales
Britannia Cestrian has been moving Chester since 1972, and our surveyors know the area inside out – the listed townhouses and restricted access of the city centre, the suburban Wirral, and the rural lanes and long drives of North Wales and Cheshire that catch other firms out. Our depot on Chester West Employment Park, off Sealand Road, sits moments from the A55 North Wales Expressway and the M53 – so we reach Chester, the Wirral and deep into North Wales quickly.
We cover Chester and Cheshire, the Wirral – including Ellesmere Port, Neston and Heswall – and North Wales, from Deeside and Flint to Mold, Buckley and Wrexham, plus Frodsham and Northwich. And as part of Britannia Movers International – the UK’s largest owner-operated removals network — that local knowledge is backed by a fleet of 400+ vehicles across 40+ UK locations, so whether you’re moving across the city or across the country, you’re covered from the very first survey.
