One day or two
This is the decision that shapes the price and it gets made at survey. A shorter run can load and deliver the same day. Beyond a certain distance the crew loads on day one, travels, and delivers on day two, and drivers’ hours rules rather than enthusiasm decide where that line falls.
An overnight is not a worse outcome. It usually means an unhurried load, a proper unload, and furniture placed rather than dumped in a hallway at eight in the evening.
Fixed dates and the risk around them
Long-distance moves are usually tied to something immovable. A job start, a school term, a tenancy that ends. The survey sets the schedule against that date and identifies the parts of the plan with no slack in them, which is more useful than a plan that assumes everything runs perfectly.
Packing for distance
A load that spends six hours on a motorway is treated differently from one crossing a city. Furniture is blanket-wrapped, loads are strapped and braced so nothing shifts in transit, and fragile items are packed for movement rather than just for carrying. Full packing is available if you would rather not do any of it.
Delivery at the other end
Access at the destination gets surveyed too, which is easy to skip on a long-distance move when nobody involved has seen the new house. Photographs and the postcode help, and the surveyor will ask for both. Furniture is placed and reassembled where it was taken apart, and boxes go to the labelled room.
Storage at either end
Long-distance moves and chain delays go together, particularly where a purchase depends on a sale several hundred miles away. Household storage at the Deeside depot covers a gap at this end. The Britannia network covers one at the other.
